Car inspection to get the best price for second-hand car

What Goes On Under The Hood During Vehicle Inspections?

There’s a lot of deciding factor towards getting the best price for selling the second-hand car and it can be a tiring and hassling process as well. You might be thinking about how to sell it, who to sell it to and how much money you can actually make and also what replacement car you’re going to get. There are thousands of factors that will come to play when you decide to sell your second-hand car. The most important and mandatory step is to have your vehicle inspected before actually selling it off. Despite PUSPAKOM being the only body allowed by the Malaysian government to give out vehicle inspections to allow for a transfer of ownership of the car, mechanics and auto traders usually carry out their own inspections first before allowing the car to even be considered to be trade-worthy.

Do you ever wonder what really goes on when your car is sent to a workshop for an inspection? Well, wonder no more because here at AutoCraver, we want to share this activity with you guys. We have also included a detailed spreadsheet of what we do here when we get a customer who wants to sell their car. We believe in transparency and that is what you are going to get.

During the Test Drive

#1 The Engine

This is the heart of your car, the main organ (if you may) and therefore the engine needs to be in tip-top condition – for a number of years you’ve had it for. Ensuring that the engine operates normally and has no obvious flaws is crucial. In addition to that, our mechanics will make sure that the car runs smoothly and it doesn’t jerk and has no abnormal noises.

We will also make sure that in a manual car, that the clutch works properly and in an automatic transmission car we strive to make sure that the gears shifts smoothly and there is no slipping bands or clutches.

#2 The Brakes

Our mechanics will also check on the condition of your brakes. We will check for excessive vibration when braking while also confirming that your ABS braking system works without a hitch. If your brake pads aren’t working properly, PUSPAKOM will never allow your car to pass the inspection. Any unusual noises will also be looked into during the inspection by our mechanics.

#3 Steering of the Car

Our mechanic will check on every component of your car’s steering mechanism. The steering mechanism is the neck of the body and without the neck working properly, you cannot go anywhere. We will make sure that there is not weird and unusual noises or any difficulties during steering.

Another thing to note while our mechanics are conducting the test drive is that we will also look out for any weird noises coming from the windows or alignment problems that will give rise to a bigger problem in the end. In addition to that, they will ensure that the indicator signals are working and are up to par with current standards.

Under The Hood

This is the typical check under the hood. Things like your engine fluid, wiper fluid, steering wheel fluid will all be checked and added or changed if needed. We will also make sure that there are no missing brackets and if anything is damaged, we will make sure this is fixed.

#4 Coolant

Inspections for the cooling fan’s workability will be done. The water pump and cooling system will be checked thoroughly to ensure that there is no leaks present. We will also check the air-conditioning systems to make sure that everything is working properly.

Under The Car

#5 Tires

Old and worn out tires will not help you pass an inspection. If the threads are non-existent you will need to make sure you get them replaced before you send the car to PUSPAKOM. Our mechanics will make sure that they are at the proper inflation and they are all of the same brands as well. We will also make sure that the tools required for a tire change are also there and work properly.

#6 Car Frame and Unibody

The mechanics will check the car’s frame and unibody to make sure there is no rust present. We will also check to ensure that the fuel tank is intact and the fuel lines are free from leakages. Inspection of the brake lines, the hoses, and the exhaust systems will be done as well.

Vehicle Features

#7 Body Electronics

Things like the horn, the clock, and the ambient temperature display will be checked by the mechanics to ensure that they are all working perfectly. Ensuring that the central locking system is functional and the windshield wipers are at proper speeds will also be done. The alarm system and the child locks will also be examined.

#8 Lighting

This is also another no-brainer. Ensuring that the high beams work, your signals and even the lights in your car must be made sure that they are fully functional.

#9 Vehicle Exterior

This is where people say looks do matter! Our mechanics will ensure that there are no visible dents, scratches or even parts where the paint has chipped off. We will also make sure that the windshield has no cracks or leaks because this can lead to much bigger problems in the future. The roof will also be checked to make sure it is in a great condition as well as making sure that the doors and its hinges are also working perfectly.

#10 Vehicle Interior

It is often said that comfort is key and this is so true for your vehicles interior. Being stuck in traffic sucks but it will suck even more if the interior of your car is uncomfortable and not well kept. Our mechanics will make sure the car is clean and the floor mats are in good condition as well as ensuring that the seat belts hold up to standard to make sure no accidents happen in the future.

There is a whole lot more going on during a vehicle inspection and here at AutoCraver, we strive to make sure your car is well taken care of even though you are planning to sell it. This is to ensure that its new owner gets their money’s worth. If you wish to see the entire checklist, head on over to our website to get all the information you need!
